JERUSALEM, Aug. 7 (UPI) --
At least 15 people died Monday in Lebanon as Israeli planes again pounded southern Beirut and other Hezbollah strongholds.
In the village of Hula in southern Lebanon, one person was killed and 50 rescued from the rubble, The New York Times said.
Earlier in the day, at a meeting of Arab foreign ministers, Prime Minister Fouad Siniora tearfully claimed 40 deaths and said that Israel had targeted a civilian area.
"Thank God, they have been saved," Siniora said. "But those who shoot to kill innocent people proved they have the intention to kill."
He later withdrew the allegation.
In Jerusalem, Irsaeli Defense Minister Amir Peretz said he had issued an "unequivocal order" to operate anywhere in Lebanon to curb rocket attacks on Israel. By midday, Ynetnews said 90 Hezbollah rockets had been fired into northern Israel.
Elsewhere, fighting between Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah militants erupted in the southern Lebanese city of Sidon, CNN reported.
An Israeli soldier was killed in a morning battle with Hezbollah terrorists in Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, and 14 Hezbollah militants were also reported killed, a broadcast by Arutz Sheva reported.
In northern Israel, three people were wounded as Katyusha rocket volleys struck, two of which scored direct hits on houses, the Jerusalem Post said.
Sunday, Hezbollah rockets killed 15 Israelis. In Haifa, a woman and two men were killed and at least 189 people were wounded in a wave of shelling.
